Hiplife/Afro pop Ghanaian artistes R2Bees who were catalogued along with Torgny, LCMDF which stands for Le Corps Mince de Francoise, Cape Town emcee Mmaphuthi Morule aka Thabile Rasa and Keel Her
lost out to LCMDF.

The five (5) artistes selected were carefully chosen by MTV based of their raising popularity.

Although Ghanaians round the world were urged to vote for R2Bees who have continuously churned hit songs such as 'I Dey Mad', 'Yawa Girl', 'Kiss Your Hands', 'Ajeei', 'Dance' and more, the concluding votes turned to a not.

LCMDF (Le Corps Mince de Francoise) swept MTV Iggy’s Artist of the Week. The Helsinki sisters, who signed to Sony Finland and Heavenly Recordings for their debut album Love and Nature, are a poppy, high-energy duo filled with abrasive keys, dissonant harmonies, and lyrics with Beck-sharp cleverness.

A win for the music group R2Bees would have had them featured on the MTV Iggy homepage along personal interview. Congratulations LCMDF and better luck to the ‘Ajeei’ hit makers.

2011 was very good for the young artiste as he made Ghana proud by winning the Golden Heart Award in UK and most influential artiste same during at the High School Honours 2011.

As if the disqualification of R2Bees hit song Agyei from this year’s Vodafone Music Awards because of its risque lyrics is not enough, music producer, Mark Okraku Mantey is putting the blame partially at the doorstep of Sarkodie who featured on the song.

According to Okraku, Sarkodie, Ghana’s fastest rapper doesn’t use risque lyrics in his own songs so he doesn’t see why he should do that when featuring on someone else’s work.

Talking to Graphic Showbiz, Okraku said Sarkodie is not noted for singing profane so he was surprised he came up with those lyrics on Agyei.

“If Daddy Lumba or A.B Crenstil did that, it wouldn’t have come as a surprise but coming from Sarkodie is shocking. He would naturally not use profane lyrics in his own songs.

“Anyway, I wouldn’t put all the blame on Sarkodie. R2bees should have known better than to allow Sarkodie to use such words on their work”, he added. However, the manager of R2bees, Ike Otoo Arhin disagrees with Mark. He said R2Bees doesn’t have a problem with Agyei being disqualified from the VGMA.

“ You see, R2bees has been able to make a very big impact with Agyei. The group did the song not necessarily targeting the Ghana Music Awards but rather coming out with something that Ghanaians will love and I think they have been able to achieve that.

“ Also, the fact that R2bees has been nominated in the other categories in the VGMA is enough to say R2bees did very well last year. I hope R2bees who have been nominated in Artiste of the Year, Best Group of the Year and Hiplife/ HipHop Artiste categories win at least two of the awards.

“As we talk now, R2bees is touring some parts of London with Agyei and would return somewhere next week” the manager told Showbiz.

On his part, a representative of Sarkodie has challenged Okraku to come again: “ Why is he picking on only Sarkodie? Nana Borro who also featured on Agyei used what I believe are more suggestive lyrics so he should leave Sarkodie alone”.

Chemphe is Ghana’s only Pan-African R n B /urban life artiste with enormous experience in writing of inspirational and good R n B pieces.

His global Campaign against poverty which received massive support from YMCA and subsequently had the new day album launched in Norway, was among the biggest album exposure around the world.

E-Jam Records signed Chemphe in 2011 and subsequently released “Number 1” which featured Dr. Cryme his label mate. The song received massive airplay especially in Western region and greater Accra region where it started topping chats.

The video which was shot in South Africa and Ghana was released simultaneously in Kumasi (Ghana) and Tema (Ghana). The video also received good airplay on National and International television stations after it was launched in August 2011.

E.L., who has been nominated for Best New Artiste of the Year, Best Rapper of the Year and Best Collaboration of the Year, has said that despite the fact that the nominees in the Best Rapper of the Year category are all gifted and talented, Manifest is best suited for the award.

“One of my favourite rappers in the whole world is Manifest and I will actually pick Manifest out of the rest even though they are talented and gifted artistes but Manifest is my favourite and I will tip him,” he said.

Elorm Adablah, also known as E.L. in the Ghanaian music industry, made the disclosure when he spoke in an interview with XFM 95.1
However, E.L. expressed his disappointment at the award committee’s failure to nominate budding musician Raquel for the Artiste of the Year category.

Raquel has been nominated in four different categories, but E.L feels she deserves to be the Artiste of the year. “I am actually not happy because Raquel has been working so hard this whole year and she has had big and successful songs that have come out to her credit.

She is just a magnanimous talent. Therefore I was hoping that she will be in the running for Artiste of the Year,” he said.
According to the ‘Obuu Mo’ hit maker, it would have been nice to see Raquel win the Artiste of the Year.

He called on Ghanaians to choose wisely on who should be the deserved artiste of the year, adding that “it will be nice if a lady is adjudged the artiste of the year for a change” as “over the years it’s mostly men who come up tops in this category” Dennis Lantey Lawson ,Xfm.

As April 14, 2012 draws near, it is interesting to note how the various nominees have shifted their campaign into top gear to ensure they walk away with honours at the 13th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Festival.

Come Saturday March 17, 2012, all roads lead to the Jubilee Park in the twin city Sekondi-Takoradi, where a select string of nominated artistes will be rocking music lovers and their teeming fans in and around the Oil City to a grand jam.

To mount the stage on the night will include Kwaw Kesse, Ruff n Smooth, D Cryme, Selina Boateng and Stay Jay. Other artistes to thrill the audience on the night are Gifty Ossei, Trigmatic and Raquel, among a host of other exceptional performers.

The Takoradi concert is absolutely free and expected to attract thousands of music lovers. It is the first of a series of nominee jams and parties to be held around the country. The nominees jam affords organizers the opportunity to involve a greater part of the country in the VGMA festival.

However, voting for the public categories is in progress. The general public vote at the VGMA goes a long way to decide who wins what in the year as the scheme maintains the 3-tier voting system that involves the general public, the VGMA board and the VGMA Academy.

For the public awards, the general public makes 40% of the decision, the VGMA Academy 30% while the VGMA board has 30% vote. For the non-public awards, the VGMA Academy makes 50% of the decision while the VGMA board makes the remaining 50% of the decision of who wins what.

For the Honorary Awards, the VGMA Board decides 100% who wins what while for the Sound Engineer, Music Video and Producer of the Year, the decision will be split between the VGMA board and peer voting.

To vote for Artiste of the Year, all one has to do is text A to the short code 1767 on Vodafone and all other networks and follow the voice prompts. For Vodafone Song of the Year one has to text B to the short code 1767 and for all other categories, text C also to 1767and follow prompts.

The public categories consist of Artiste Of the Year, Most Popular Song, Best New Artiste, Hiphop Song, Hiplife Song, Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste, Gospel Song, Gospel Artiste, Highlife Song, Highlife Artiste, Afro-Pop Song, Reggae Song, Best Collaboration, Group of the Year and African Artiste of the Year.

One of KDIC 88.5FM's current programmes is called Erasing Boundaries, and it's a series of interviews with artists, musicians and writers who strive to erase musical and cultural boundaries.

Previous guest include Lupe Fiasco, rapper Big Sean, and the band They Might Be Giants, and the guest this week was Brooklyn-based Ghanaian rapper, bandleader, artist and filmmaker Blitz the Ambassador.

If you've listened to Blitz's most recent album Native Son, you'll understand why he was a good pick for the show. It's a hip-hop album all right, but you'll also hear Ethiopian funk jazz, Afrobeat, R&B and more, and one minute he's flowing in Pidgin, the next in Twi or English. (You get to hear some of the tracks from that album during the show, specifically Accra City Blues, Instrumentalude, Wahala, Akwaaba, Native Sun and Free Your Mind, and Breathe from the previous album Stereotype).

But equally pertinent to his invitation is the content of his music. As he explains, people relate to what he's saying whether he's performing in Ghana, the States or Europe, because people all over the world want the same things, a better life, fair wages, better access to the basics: healthcare, education, etc., and changing the status quo that prevents people from getting these things is what his music is about.

He also explains why he has musicians playing real instruments when he records or performs. If only other hip-hop artists would try this, even if only occasionally.

He talks about how what he does is rooted in Ghana, of course, but for more on that it's worth watching the following 10-minute video as well. Blitz's new album gRIOT coming your way this summer!

The single titled ‘Zoobie Zoobie’ is a love song that talks about how proud she is to have a man in her life and how he makes her feel.

She refers to such a love as ‘Zoobie Zoobie’ love. The change from Mimi to Habiba comes with an EGO, she calls Habiba Ego.

The new single is in the high life vein. Habiba will be doing Afro Pop and High Life to compliment her new image and name.

Award-winning Ghanaian music group, VIP, made up of Promzy, Lazzy and Prodigal, is set to take off this month with its tour of the United State of America dubbed ‘Vision Tour’.

The group announced the tour early this year and said 2012 would be another year of breakthroughs. The tour is expected to catapult their career to new horizons and endear them to their fans in that part of the world.

It will be the biggest tour of the group’s musical career so far and it is scheduled to take off this month and run till June.
The group will be in cities such as New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Oakland, Texas, Maryland, Boston and more.

The tour will however be climaxed in Ghana with shows across the country. There will be performance in the US and a screening of documentaries of the group and how hiplife started with them, as well as their contribution to the music genre’s growth in Ghana.
Most of the screenings, which is aimed at educating the world about hiplife, will be done in colleges.

VIP will be on the tour with a tall list of artistes yet to be confirmed but currently it is clear that sexy singer Tiffany and music group Fruit of Inspiration (FOI) will be on the tour.

The group is currently Ghana Music Awards’ reigning artistes of the year and has given its blessings to the artistes who have been nominated for the category in the upcoming music awards.
Artistes in the category are Becca, Okyeame Kwame, Sarkodie, Efya, R2bees, 4×4 and Kwaw Kese.

Currently, the group’s single, ‘Which Kind Yawa Be Dis’, featuring Sarkodie, is hitting the airwaves. Its latest album is also almost done.
